Travel insurance for sporting travellers

Tailored cover consideration for eligible travellers taking part in sport, training, competition, racing, elite-level or paid sporting activities as part of a trip in Australia or overseas.

Specialist cover for sport-related travel

From training camps and tournaments to racing, representative sport and paid competition, Go Insurance can assess travel insurance options for sporting travellers.

Standard travel insurance is generally designed for leisure travel and may not automatically cover higher-risk, competitive, elite, representative, paid, professional, semi-professional or racing-related sport.

Important: Completing this form does not mean cover has been accepted. Cover only applies once Go Insurance confirms acceptance in writing and issues the relevant policy documents, including any applicable endorsement or Special Conditions.

Who can apply?

You can submit a quote request if sport is part of your trip, whether you’re training, competing, racing, attending a tournament, joining a camp or clinic, or taking part in an organised sporting event.

Requests can be submitted by the traveller, a parent or guardian, a team representative, or a broker/travel agent acting on the traveller’s behalf.

Sports and activities we can consider

  • Training and preparation, including camps, clinics, academies, coaching programs and development activities
  • Competition and events, including fixtures, tournaments, race events, timed events and organised competitions
  • Racing and higher-risk participation
  • Representative, elite or high-performance sport
  • Paid, sponsored or professional participation
  • Snow sports, equestrian, team sports, contact sports, athletics, endurance events, cycling, triathlon, water sports, golf and other organised sporting activities

What may be included?

  • Approved sporting activity cover, if accepted
  • Overseas medical expenses, emergency evacuation and repatriation, if travelling internationally
  • Trip cancellation and curtailment
  • Travel disruption
  • Baggage and personal effects
  • Sports equipment, where available and applicable
  • 24-hour emergency assistance

Why this matters

Not all sporting trips carry the same risk. A casual recreational activity is different from organised competition, racing, elite training, representative sport or paid participation.

Not always. Some amateur or recreational activities fall within the policy terms, while higher-risk, competitive, elite, representative, racing, paid or professional sport may need to be declared and accepted by Go Insurance before cover applies.

Does completing this form mean I’m covered?

No. This form is a request for assessment only. Cover only applies once Go Insurance confirms acceptance in writing and issues the relevant policy documents.

Can I apply if I’m competing, training or racing?

Yes. Tell us what you’ll be doing, where, when, and at what level. We’ll assess whether cover can be offered and whether any special terms apply.

Can paid, sponsored or professional athletes apply?

Yes. If you receive payment, sponsorship, prize money, allowances, grants, scholarships, appearance fees or other benefits connected with your sport, include those details in the form.

Can elite or representative athletes apply?

Yes. Elite, high-performance and representative athletes can submit a request. We’ll review the sport, destination, travel dates and level of participation before confirming whether cover can be offered.

Can a team, club, school or broker submit a request?

Yes. A request can be submitted by the traveller, a parent or guardian, team representative, school, club, travel agent, broker or organiser, provided they are authorised to provide the information.

Will sports equipment be covered?

It depends on the policy, equipment, circumstances and applicable limits or exclusions. Include details of any sports equipment you want considered.

What happens after I submit the form?

Go Insurance will review the information provided and may ask for more details. If cover can be offered, we’ll confirm the terms, including any additional premium, excess, exclusions, endorsement or Special Conditions.
